Alex is chief economist at Arup, the leading built environment consultancy. He leads projects often involve economic analysis with a financing and funding focus. Alex has worked extensively with business improvement districts, local authorities and governments internationally on their growth and economic development strategies often with a transport component. Last year, he was project director for the West End Good Growth study for the GLA and City of Westminster. Alex led work on the GLA’s original London 2050 Infrastructure Plan and has overseen subsequent commissions to help develop the authority’s infrastructure capital strategy.
He has led economic analysis and development studies for London City airport, the Royal Docks and the (pre-opening) effects of Crossrail on the real estate market. Alex was a commissioner for Waltham Forest’s economic growth commission and the Kings College Policy Commission on London. He is member of the Design South East review panel and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport.
Alex was recently appointed as Chair of Bee-Midtown, the business improvement district for Holborn, Farringdon and Clerkenwell.
