NLA is the membership organisation for London’s built environment community. We are an independent, purpose-led organisation looking for a Business Development Executive to join our dynamic and highly respected team at a really exciting time.
 
Spanning public and private sectors, our members work across all aspects of city planning, design, development, and management.
 
Collectively, we seek to engage everyone in the discussion about the future of our city – from school children and community groups to political leaders and international peers – leveraging our London models and public galleries at The London Centre in the City of London, as well as our extensive programme and communication channels.
 
We act as a catalyst and a convenor to foster new ideas and partnerships; improve skills and industry diversity; and encourage participation in decision making.
 
Together, we shape a better city for everyone.
 
The Business Development Executive joins at a time when we have plans to grow our membership following the opening of The London Centre.
 
The role
 
We’re looking for someone with a pro-active attitude and will to succeed. The Business Development Executive will work closely with the Director, Client Relationships and the NLA marketing team to engage new prospects, identified as part of a long-term business development strategy to grow our membership.
 
This is a new business sales role, with targets to achieve, both in terms of activity and revenue. This role is also client facing, so the ability to communicate effectively and adapt your style dependent on your audience is essential.
 
The role will provide the opportunity to work within an industry that touches all aspects of the built environment community, which in turn offers the successful candidate a wide variety of opportunities to learn and develop within a brilliant organisation and team.
 
Terms:
 
Hours: Full time, 9.00am – 6.00pm (including 1 – hour lunch break). Flexible working from our City of London office, the London Centre (our public gallery) and from home/ location of your choice.
 
Salary: £32,000 to £34,000 per annum, depending on experience.
 
Location: NLA’s office’s City of London, EC1V (Gresham Street and The London Centre, Guildhall)

Main duties and responsibilities
 
  • To deliver a high-level of outreach through different channels to engage new membership prospects
  • To develop new prospect lists in key growth sectors using a variety of research platforms
  • To develop opportunities that lead to new membership generating conversations
  • To join calls and meetings to discuss NLA’s membership propositions with new prospects
  • To build and manage a sales pipeline
 
What we are looking for

You will be a team player but also a self-starter with the ability to identify new opportunities to develop new membership growth.
You will share our team’s core values by always being informed, rigorous, collaborative and responsive in everything you do.
 
Essential Skills & Experience
 
  • Experience with new business processes and carrying out research to identify prospects
  • Proven track record in sales
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken
  • Ability to build a rapport and establish trust with clients
  • Ability to create value-based messaging to engage senior people
  • Strong initiative and able to self-motivate
  • An understanding of the built environment and/or understanding of a professional business or membership organisation would be beneficial
  • Proficient use of CRM systems
 
Your normal working week is 40 hours, Monday to Friday.
