Rory Olcayto is writer and critic at Pollard Thomas Edwards. A former editor of The Architects' Journal and chief executive of Open City, the organisation behind Open House London, Rory has worked in architectural practice, as a videogames designer, and a journalist, in Glasgow, Liège, Istanbul and London.
With a successful career in journalism, publishing and events, Rory brings to PTE an enthusiasm for promoting and furthering excellence in architectural practice. An exponent of critical insight, with a talent for lateral thinking, Rory use his strengths in writing and public speaking to explore and apply emerging ideas and practices in design and culture. Rory’s broad experience provides a base for his analytical approach to reviewing and inputting into the wide range of PTE projects.
Rory has also written and edited several books including the popular Deck Access Housing Design Guide (with Andrew Beharrell). Oher titles include books on Mimar Sinan (The First Starchitect), Richard Rogers (British Museum World Conservation and Exhibitions Centre) and Charles Rennie Mackintosh (The Hill House: Not Forever, for Carmody Groarke). Rory studied architecture (BSc and MSc) at the University of Strathclyde.
