The impact that the built environment has on our health and prosperity is something that fascinated me well before my career in urban planning began.
Growing up in a steel works town in South Wales during the ’80s, I witnessed firsthand the profound impact that political, economic, and social change can have on a community. This sparked my lifelong commitment to creating positive change through effective planning, helping deliver quality development and fostering strong partnerships between the public and private sectors.
As a senior urban planner, I have had the privilege of working on numerous significant projects across the UK. From advising on tall buildings in London’s opportunity areas, to spearheading town centre transformations, to transforming heritage assets and developing new garden communities, my expertise lies in forging successful collaborations and facilitating productive relationships between stakeholders.
I also fully understand and can articulate in a compelling way that projects that contribute positively to social, economic and environmental needs also need to be viable and deliverable. My work is underpinned by a deep understanding of the more technical and political aspects of planning consultancy.
Drawing on my extensive experience in both the private and public sectors, which includes senior leadership positions at leading property consultants in London and roles in local authorities and in a government department and a development corporations I bring a well-rounded perspective to the table. My expertise spans supporting the delivery of complex developments, formulating strategic planning documents, and crafting masterplans that shape the future of urban places.
My dedication to the built environment extends beyond traditional planning practices. I am deeply passionate about championing built environment principles and practices that prioritise the creation of healthy communities and places. As a co-author of ‘The Healthy City’ on behalf of Key Cities, I advocate for a more ambitious and holistic approach to planning that embraces the full potential of our urban landscapes to ‘create health’.
Recognised for my expertise, I am a Chartered Member of the Royal Town Planning Institute and serve as a Planning Expert to the Government’s High Streets Task Force. Additionally, I contribute my insights as a member of the NLA Health & Wellbeing expert panel and the Sustainable Skyline Skills Taskforce, led by the City of London.
