Infrastructure for climate resilience

Talk

Thursday 13 February 2025
18:15 - 19:45

This evening talk explores the challenges of building urban infrastructure that is resilient to climate change, focusing on innovative flooding, greening and heating systems.
The impacts of climate change and the global transition to net zero present significant challenges for urban infrastructure, while also offering opportunities for innovation and adaptation. This evening talk, informed by NLA’s latest research report, RePower London, examines how place-based, people-centric approaches can effectively address these pressing climate challenges through sustainable and forward-thinking strategies.

The discussion will highlight a range of examples, including the integration of green infrastructure to enhance urban resilience and biodiversity, the implementation of advanced flood mitigation systems to manage increasing climate risks, and the use of waste heat to develop efficient and sustainable energy networks. These initiatives exemplify how a holistic approach to infrastructure can balance environmental needs with the demands of urban populations, promoting sustainability, inclusivity, and economic viability.

By focusing on London’s case studies, the talk will provide valuable insights into how cities can innovate and adapt their infrastructure to not only withstand current challenges but also build a more sustainable and equitable future.
