London, Paris and Los Angeles: legacies and challenges of three Olympic cities.
In 2012, the London Olympic Games were part of a sustainable strategy: ecological, financial, social. The team behind Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, which have transformed the East side of the city, has inspired future host cities and is part of the legacy of the Olympic Games. Adopted by the IOC, the 2020 Olympic Agenda sets 40 recommendations in line with this vision: towards more sustainable, financially prudent games for a legacy in host cities.
While London focused on the East End and its regeneration through the Games, for Paris and Los Angeles the pattern is different. Having already hosted the Olympic Games, Paris and LA are focusing on using its existing infrastructure. The Games are not limited to a defined area but to the whole city. This raises questions about the impact this has on both cities and the necessary infrastructure, particularly in terms of transport. How do the Paris and Los Angeles projects fit into the 2020 Olympic Agenda?
We will hear from London, Paris and Los Angeles about their experiences as host cities. What are the legacies and lessons learned from the London experience 10 years later? What are the main guidelines for the next two host cities to build on this legacy? The event will take place simultaneously in all three cities at 18:00 in Paris, 09:00 in Los Angeles and 17:00 in London. This event forms a part of the NLA City Dialogues programme, which brings together speakers and audiences to foster cross-city dialogue and learning between cities.
