New London Architecture

Remembering Nicky Gavron

Monday 02 September 2024

Michael Cassidy CBE, Chair of NLA, shares his reflections and memories of the late Nicky Gavron on the sad news of her passing.

London owes a great debt to the late Nicky Gavron, who received deserved recognition from a packed audience of  New London Architecture members and guests at Guildhall  in 2022 as "Londoner of the Year".

I well recall her energetic contribution to the development of a London Plan in its initial stages, emerging from the creation of an Elected Mayor and Assembly for the Capital out of a vacuum of power in the early years of the Millennium. Intelligent, committed, cooperative across her many areas of interest, Nicky was a pleasure to work alongside and will surely be missed in the new era of politics we are now entering.
