Urban Coffee Farm & Brew Bar

Built

Urban Coffee Farm utilised a central part of the city to temporarily showcase city activation through ‘meanwhile’ use with a story that linked visitors with local suppliers and producers.

Urban Coffee Farm transplants the world’s exotic and elusive coffee-growing origins to Melbourne’s CBD, generating a new temporary landscape for the visitor to explore.

A sequence of educational components is integrated into the design and illuminate the process of harvesting and preparing the coffee cherries for export. Finally, and perhaps most importantly in our caffeinated city, the visitor can sample freshly and expertly brewed coffee in the Tasting Cafe, hidden within the hill.

This project is featured alongside our Public London: Activating the City insight study. The publication, exhibition and online project directory explore what constitutes a successful and democratic public realm today, the role of co‑creation and partnerships, and how we can ensure that places are fit‑for‑purpose in the long term.
