Walk the Line

Built

A series of activated urban spaces, linked together through a ‘line’ of graphics, that sought to encourage city pedestrians to see the built environment through a more playful lens.

Walk the Line, was a simple temporary 4km long dotted line that turned into games in selected areas of the City of Sydney and as a foley of urban discovery.

Street corners become hop-scotch pitches, bat tennis courts and marbles fields; while stairs become waterfalls and road crossings arcade games – a unique transformation of the public realm.

Walk-the-Line hoped to inspire a revival of the much loved, pre-iPod fun that used to be played in our streets.

This project is featured alongside our Public London: Activating the City insight study. The publication, exhibition and online project directory explore what constitutes a successful and democratic public realm today, the role of co‑creation and partnerships, and how we can ensure that places are fit‑for‑purpose in the long term.
