New London Architecture

NLA Showcase recording

Thursday 29 June 2023

Director, Benjamin O'Connor, also discussed all the amazing opportunities and initiatives we have coming up that will directly impact the future of London.

In this session, we were also joined by special guest speaker, Rob Evans, Partner, Argent & Related Argent who provided an update on the vital work he is doing.

Post-Brexit, post-global financial crisis, post-pandemic and post-everything else there is, according to Professor Gleg Clark (NLA Senior Advisor and Sounding Board members) a need for ‘a new social contract’ for our cities which is intolerant to high carbon living, focused on clean air, healthy lifestyle and affordable housing – a city that works for all citizens, not just the highly paid or highly skilled – a city of stronger inclusivity and more equal communities.

We need to directly address social equity alongside climate change and that means re-addressing how we cluster people, systems and assets together in cities.

We need new models of corporations that bring together the public, private, registered providers and charity sectors to deliver comprehensive change and social equity.

The New London Agenda recognises the problems [facing our industry] and addresses them and starts to show what we can do to move the debate forward.

One of the great things about the Sounding Board in the last few years is that the NextGen group have come along and given us a really different voice and helped create big debates, particularly around social equity.

A converted effort to take responsibility for these issues, offering clarity and provide the purpose via the New London Agenda which offers a really great way to move our city forward and build greater trust.
