Lucy Musgrave OBE is the founding director of Publica, a London-based practice operating across multiple scales of urban change. Publica specialises in research and policy at the metropolitan scale; visions and strategies for districts and neighbourhoods; and applied urban design for streets and spaces, including award-winning designs for Bond Street, Hanover Square, Burlington Gardens. The practice is currently leading on social value and placemaking principles for urban masterplans across the UK and is retained by the GLA to advise on all evening and night time research and policy for London’s boroughs. Lucy is also leading Publica’s CIC campaign with Dr. Ellie Cosgrave for safety in public spaces for women, girls and gender diverse people. The CIC is working to improve access to knowledge and expertise, foster innovative and creative ideas across the sector, and trialling and implementing new projects.
Over a 30-year career, Lucy has played a key advisory role in policy recommendations, strategic planning, and the advocacy of design quality. She is currently a Grand Plan Trustee, a charity run by creatives, for creatives; Mayor’s Design Advocate and on the Homes England Cross Cutting Committee for Design and Sustainability. Recent roles include the National Infrastructure Commission's Design Group and Expert Advisory Group; Public Practice Board Member; Barbican Arts Centre Board Member; and member of the Night-Time Commission for the Mayor of London.
