With a career in the public sector spanning 30 years of development, planning and regeneration, Stewart has worked in five London Boroughs, the City of London Corporation and GLA. He has advised three different Mayors of London on the city’s growth, housing and regeneration strategies and has successfully delivered some of the most complex and largest planning and transport projects in the Capital.
Stewart led on production of the Mayor’s London Plan between 2012 - 16, bringing forward regeneration and development in London’s Opportunity Areas.
Stewart joined the London Borough of Waltham Forest Council as Strategic Director of Economic Growth in 2018 – the first Borough of Culture. He came from GL Hearn where he was head of a successful real estate business as Head of Development Group, bringing in commercial expertise. He leads on property and asset management, regeneration, planning and development, and housing delivery. He is currently leading a redevelopment of the iconic Waltham Forest Town Hall campus, a new theatre restoration in Walthamstow, delivery of a new town centre at Lea Bridge/Leyton and delivery of 27,000 new homes and thousands of new creative jobs through a radical new Local Plan.
