Join WICONA and Mace for an NLA Study Tour of Palmerston Court to preview this new project under construction in the heart of Battersea.
Palmerston Court is a mixed-use development comprising of urbanest student accommodation, an Enterprise Business Unit, cafés and retail spaces, offices and a public house.
The scheme reads as four elements in the city, and as such there are four different facade treatments that give each building a unique identity. While variation is necessary to meet environmental requirements, the design and performance of the envelope have been developed as a whole to read coherently.
The composition of the elevations takes advantage of both materials and colours in order to emphasize the character of each building. The coloured glazed ceramic facade, together with the modulation of the recessed windows and chamfers will create a sense of depth and solidity for the residential buildings, which will act as a strong landmark to the area.
A secondary palette of materials has been chosen for the office building, with a darker metal frame which relates directly to the industrial heritage of the Battersea area. A solid, insulated spandrel panel improves the thermal performance of the building. Large format glazing will characterise the active frontages of the Enterprise Business Unit and public house, activating the public realm at the ground floor level.
