UK city dialogue: city centres

Talk

Monday 05 October 2020
15:00 - 16:30

This UK City Dialogue brings together Manchester, London and Birmingham for a discussion about the health of our city centres as we move through the recovery from COVID-19.
How we live, work and move around cities has fundamentally changed as a result of COVID19. The pandemic has brought with it huge cultural shifts with very few people commuting to central locations and a severe reduction in tourism. City centres are facing an existential challenge with the potential diminution of amenities, shops, cafes, and cultural venues. The very character that makes our cities globally attractive and economically successful is under threat.

How will this change how we use, plan and build cities in the long term? How do we support and protect central areas and retain the benefits of agglomeration? How do we ensure these core pieces of the city’s identity survive?

The live video seminar, taking place simultaneously in several cities, will begin promptly at 10:00. This event forms a key part of the NLA City Dialogues programme, which brings together speakers and audiences to foster cross-city dialogue and learning between cities, both regionally and internationally.
