In this Projects in Practice webinar, NLA shines a spotlight on The OWO, the restoration of Britain’s 20th Century Old War Office into a 5* Luxury hotel.
The Grade II* listed former government headquarters has been carefully and extensively renovated across an eight-year period. From the hand-laid mosaic floors to the oak panelling and the marble staircase, an assortment of artisan craftspeople worked meticulously to restore the building to its former grandeur.
Taking full advantage of the site, the team extended up, with rooftop extensions of between 1 and 3 storeys, as well as down, excavating four new basement levels beneath the existing building – requiring complex engineering intervention to minimise impact on the existing fabric.
This Project in Practice webinar brought together the team of developers, architects, and engineers behind The OWO to deliver a detailed presentation on the processes and methods behind this exemplary hotel project, guided by sensitive conservation principles.
