The Next Generation of Housing, Powered by PechaKucha

Talk

Thursday 15 June 2023
18:30 - 20:30

Finding an affordable place to live in London is not easy. So what are the alternative ways of living in London?
Finding an affordable place to live in London is not easy. Whether renting or buying, it is increasingly difficult to find a home in our city, even for working professionals. With rising costs, the lure of moving out of London to home ownership or cheaper rent is becoming more appealing. We have a city in common, but how affordable and accessible is it for everyone?

So what are the alternative ways of living in London?

We explore the projects and ideas that are creating solutions to London’s housing problem and take a look at how different cultures and communities can inspire new housing ideas for London.

The format, Pecha Kucha (ペチャクチャ), was devised in Tokyo in 2003 by the English architect Mark Dytham and has turned into a massive global celebration of design, with events happening in hundreds of cities around the world. Drawing its name from the Japanese term for the sound of "chit chat", it rests on a presentation format that is based on a simple idea: 20 images x 20 seconds. The format makes presentations concise, keeps things moving at a rapid pace and holds its audience.
