Working Together: Innovative Infill

Talk

Tuesday 13 September 2022
10:00 - 11:00

In this webinar, we discuss innovative ‘infill’ interventions that respond to difficult, underutilised spaces in built-up contexts.
Infill sites: underutilised and disused, with poor access, and occasionally terrible ground conditions. These sites present an opportunity to turn unused constrained spaces, into well-designed, needed housing. Identifying and unlocking these areas, taking care not to impact existing and well-loved sites, and emphasizing public-sector interventions, are paramount to a well-integrated and successful scheme.

The Small Sites Programme, established to make small publicly-owned sites readily available, to small developers, housing associations and community groups, examines this; considering the different project stages, from inception and the careful understanding of where, when and how to build and develop, to the creative design process up until occupation by the end-user.

This webinar focuses on how we can make the best use of underutilised sites by designing and building innovative new homes that respond to their challenging context. How can site constraints provide ample opportunity for innovation in housing? What are the opportunities for wider placemaking and how can this make a positive contribution to existing neighbourhoods?
