NLA Projects Internship 
6 months fixed-term 
 
We’re looking for a Projects Intern to join our Programme Team on a paid 6-month fixed term internship. 
 
This internship will support the NLA Programme Team across key projects and work to ensure the smooth deliver of our flagship projects. You’ll get to experience all parts of the business, learn more about the built environment sector, and the business systems which support a thriving membership organisation. 
 
About NLA 
NLA is the membership organisation for the built environment sector in London. We connect architects, developers, planners, engineers and public sector leaders to shape better cities through insight, learning and debate. Our membership spans large organisations through to individuals and small practices, all united by a commitment to London’s built environment. 

About the role 
The Projects Intern will play a key role in supporting the delivery of NLA’s busy programme of flagship events and programmes. Working closely with the Programme and Events teams, the successful candidate will help coordinate specific major NLA initiatives including: 
  • London Festival of Architecture (LFA)
  • Design competitions
  • NLA Awards
  • London Real Estate Forum (LREF)

This role involves hands-on project coordination, event support, data management and administrative duties to ensure smooth and successful delivery across all activities.
 
Key Responsibilities

We deliver hundreds of events every year both for our members and for the wider public.  Delivering this requires a well organised team of people who are great at using systems like CRM and project management tools to manage their work in an efficient way.

To thrive as our Project Intern, you’ll have not only a strong interest in the built environment and city making, but more importantly you’ll be great at learning and finding new and creative ways to use IT and business systems to support our work.

In return, as part of this paid internship, you’ll get experience across the business and to understand how use of business systems and processes can enhance our membership offer and the work of our members.  We believe this will provide a solid foundation into the world of work and the built environment for the right candidate. 

Some of the work you’ll be doing might include:

Project Support
  • Support the organisation, delivery, and evaluation of core NLA projects, including LFA, design competitions, NLA Awards and LREF.
  • Assist with project timelines, documentation, planning meetings and progress tracking.
  • Coordinate communication with partners, stakeholders, contributors and participants.
  • Maintain accurate project records, databases and shared documents.

Event Coordination
  • Support the Programme and Events teams in planning and running events such as: 
  • LFA activities at The London Centre 
  • Expert Assessing sessions for NLA Awards 
  • Judging sessions 
  • Site visits for design competitions
  • Assist with event preparation including briefing notes, schedules, materials and logistics.
  • Provide front-of-house support, welcoming attendees and managing registration.
  • Support the post-event process including feedback collection, analysis and reporting.

Administrative & Operational Support
  • Prepare documents, presentations and reports using Microsoft Office applications.
  • Support the management of project inboxes, schedules and enquiries.
  • Assist with internal communications and cross-team coordination tasks.
  • Help maintain high standards of accuracy, efficiency and professionalism across all project outputs.

Skills & Experience

Essential
  • A problem-solving mindset with an ability to learn new systems and to a solve problems creatively – with an experience of using AI to help solve problems. 
  • Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Ideally an understanding of business systems including CRM which are vital for any membership organisation. 
  • An interest in architecture, design, planning or the built environment in London.
  • Good interpersonal skills with a professional telephone manner and excellent written English.
  • Strong organisational ability with attention to detail and time management.
  • Enthusiasm, reliability and a willingness to take on new tasks and learn quickly.

Desirable
  • Experience using Photoshop, InDesign or other creative software.
  • Experience working on a Mac.
  • Previous experience in events, cultural organisations, built environment roles, or administrative support.

Reports to: Associate Director, Programme & Operations.

Terms & Benefits
·       Location:NLA office at The London Centre, EC2.
·       Work Pattern: 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday
·   Salary: £28,810 per annum (equivalent to £14,405 for the 6-month contract period) 
·       Benefits: 25 days holiday (+ bank holidays) with uncapped discretionary leave, pension, EAP, Cycle-to-work, wellness initiatives and professional development budget.
