Design Consultation Workshops, February 2023, with City of London Police
What does a modern-day police box look like?
In February 2023, NLA organised a series of three workshops in collaboration with the City of London Police to gather feedback on concept designs for City of London Police’s proposed Digital Police Box from residents and City workers, serving police officers and strategic stakeholders and partners.
The design concept for the police box by Unknown Works was selected through a competition run by NLA in 2021. This piece of work provided the feedback necessary for the designers to develop their concept and for the CoLP to continue onto the next phase of their consultation.

How will outer London town centres cope with the capital’s significant population growth?
TfL came to NLA to explore this question in 2017 through a series of design workshops and a research paper. NLA brought together young professionals to explore future visions for London’s outer town centres, and the role of station sites in unlocking new opportunities.
Five mixed-disciplinary teams formulated a conceptual design to intensify development around five different outer London station sites. Teams were encouraged to collaborate to ensure a collective vision, with key experts on hand to advise on proposals throughout the day.
All teams presented their proposals to an expert panel, including the Mayor’s Design Advocates, and the results were used to inform TfL’s wider approach to station development across their portfolio.

How can London address the challenge of unprecedented growth?
The NLA London Plan Workshop brought together experts from a broad range of disciplines to discuss key issues facing the future of the capital as City Hall started rethinking the London Plan.
An invited group of 80 senior decision makers from across planning, policy, development, architecture, community forums and academia took part in a full day workshop, hosted and facilitated by Arup – working together in teams to develop policy ideas for accommodating London’s growth.
Our resulting independent report highlighted industry recommendations on key issues for the next London Plan.
