Anja Schellenbauer

As Associate Director at John Robertson Architects, Anja Schellenbauer is a passionate advocate for sustainable design, building upon the firm’s established reputation as a leading voice in the retrofitting sector.

Prior to joining JRA in 2023, Anja made her mark as Associate Director and the Head of Sustainability at Conran & Partners after previous roles at Grimshaw, ORMS and Fletcher Priest Architects.

During her 12 years at C&P, her experience included the reinvention of Grade II listed Centre Point Tower with change of use from office to high-end residential and award-winning workplace fit-out projects. Her experience includes Carlyon Bay at ORMS and One Lothbury, a retained façade scheme in the City of London, the new built L&Q Headquarters in West Ham Lane and the Free Christian and Unitarian Church in Stratford for FPA.

After over 23 years, she has gained extensive experience in the design and delivery of technically complex, large-scale and high-rise projects, leading teams through the planning, design development and construction stages and has built lasting relationships with external teams to bring projects to a successful conclusion. She possesses both creative and forensic technical skills, with extensive experience in project and risk management, contracts and construction law.
Anja’s approach focuses on re-purposing underperforming buildings, mending the fabric of existing neighbourhoods and creating places where people love to live and work.

She is a Certified Passivhaus Designer and is listed on the RIBA Conservation Register. She contributes her expertise to the UK Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard, is an active member of the Sustainable Design Collective and Don’t Waste Buildings and enjoys sharing her knowledge and experience more widely within the industry.
