As a Principal at BDP working in Toronto & New York City, Richard believes in the design strength of architecture to inspire responsible urbanization in evolving global cities. He leads teams developing and implementing the design of inclusive, complex and sustainable projects at diverse scales especially mixed-use, high-rise and creative workplace projects. These projects drive commercial objectives and are simultaneously recognised for their design excellence. Current projects include large scale mixed-use intensifications to underutilized land parcels, innovative post-covid creative workplaces and a variety of multi unit residential projects, single and multi tower, from 15 to 60 storeys in height, all addressing fundamental sustainability and resiliency issues.
His work is frequently recognised with design accolades including Architectural Record “Good Design is Good Business”, AJ Retrofit Awards, ten years of successive Toronto Urban Design Awards, AR MIPIM & WAN Future Project Awards and IAUD, as well as a Governor General’s Medal for Architecture in 2022.
Richard is actively engaged in the development and design industry. He has previously held board positions with the Urban Land Institute, was chair of the Toronto Society of Architects and is currently the chair of the Canadian chapter of the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat. He has additionally served on several design review panels over the past decade and is currently a member of the City of Markham DRP and Metrolinx DAP.
