After the 2011 earthquake in Christchurch, BDP were commissioned to regenerate the Avon River Corridor, which is a 50ha parkland that lines the riverside.
The Avon River flows through the centre of the city of Christchurch in New Zealand. In response to the 2011 Christchurch earthquake, BDP were commissioned to regenerate the Avon River Corridor, 50ha of riverside parkland. The area is accessible for all with a pedestrian promenade and separate cycleway running the full length of the precinct. Boardwalks and terracing allow easy access to the river and feature lighting has improved safety in the evenings and enhances the city’s natural beauty.
