Darling Harbour Public Realm

Built

The 20-hectare waterfront precinct is a ‘people magnet’ where Sydney comes together to relax, to do business, to be entertained, to enjoy city living – and to share their experience

Through data assessment tools we can better understand user performance of public spaces, particularly to understand & index how design impacts society & the successful use of place. Darling Harbour reviewed the primary place performance indicators of Place Use and Place Sentiment through de-identified data, geospatial tools and algorithmic keyword queries to understand the 20ha site & its performance against the project brief & original design with the aim of enhancing future design strategies.

This project is featured alongside our Public London: Activating the City insight study. The publication, exhibition and online project directory explore what constitutes a successful and democratic public realm today, the role of co‑creation and partnerships, and how we can ensure that places are fit‑for‑purpose in the long term.
