Eastway is a multi-use sports facility in Hackney Wick, co-designed with the young people who use it in response to a lack of sporting amenities for young people in the area.

Eastway is a multi-use sports facility in Hackney Wick co-designed by Muf Architects, Hackney Council and the young people who use it. The facility was built on an underused Council-owned site in Hackney Wick as a response to a lack of sporting amenities for young people in the area and delivering on the area priorities identified by engagement with over 400 young people aged 12-20 by Hackney Quest. Eastway is managed by Young Hackney, the Council’s service for younger people.

Eastway is a multi-use sports facility for young people based behind the Old Baths on Eastway in Hackney Wick which opened in February 2022.

It is operated by Young Hackney, the Council’s Early Help service for young people aged between 6 and 19 (or up to 25 for people with special education needs and/or disabilities). The project encourages young people to lead healthy lifestyles by staying active, spending time outdoors, engaging with nature and having fun outside of school.

The Council will operate the facility for the first six years while longer term proposals are developed for the site which will be informed by the activities and use of this meanwhile project.

Vote for this project in the ‘People’s Choice Award’. The voting deadline is 1 November 2022.
