An unwelcoming railway underpass at Clapham Junction transformed into a safe, vibrant public route, rich in local identity through co-design, with community at its core.
Falcon Road Bridge transforms a previously dark, noisy and unwelcoming railway underpass at Clapham Junction into a safe, vibrant and community-led public route.
Commissioned by Wandsworth Council, the project responds directly to long standing concerns around poor lighting, anti-social behaviour, pigeon activity, accessibility and the overall pedestrian and cycle experience.
Selected through a London Festival of Architecture (LFA) Open Call competition, GPAD and the wider consultant team developed and delivered the winning proposal within an ambitious 18-month programme, completing the project on time and within budget in December 2025.
"It’s been fantastic to see this transformation of Falcon Road bridge take shape and become a bright and colourful place that people can be proud of. This is a whole-neighbourhood project, thanks to the local community who put time and effort into helping develop the artwork.” - Former Leader of Wandsworth Council, Simon Hogg, London Borough Wandsworth
