Farnham Place

Built

Completing the group of buildings that form Allies and Morrison’s urban campus of studios. The project involves the refurbishment of a listed Victorian warehouse and a new extension.

Farnham Place gained its unusual shape when Bazalgette’s Southwark Street cut through the Medieval street pattern, leaving a remnant of road cut-off. With the construction of Allies and Morrison’s studios, the route was restored and reconnected via an underpass; incorporating entrances to both the studio and The Table café, facing each other. Paved in Dutch bricks and planted with trees, it’s now the setting for al fresco dining, events, and a quiet place to take a pause from the bustling city.

This project is featured alongside our Public London: Activating the City insight study. The publication, exhibition and online project directory explore what constitutes a successful and democratic public realm today, the role of co‑creation and partnerships, and how we can ensure that places are fit‑for‑purpose in the long term.
