New London Architecture

London 2012 Water Polo Arena

Built

A 5,000 seat capacity venue, the Water Polo Arena sat within a unique development of architecture, infrastructure and landscape with the purpose of providing a platform for the London 2012.

A world first - commended for having ‘real soul and personality’ and awarded Sustainable Sports Building of the Year. The 5,000 seat Water Polo Arena was 70% pre-cycled and 90% returned to stock. Its placemaking legacy released a prominent site at the gateway to the Olympic Park for more intense future development, setting a benchmark for future Olympic and Paralympic Games. The economic design included many innovations in planning, form and material, including 50m long air-inflated recyclable pvc roof cushions.
