Shape Newham

Built

Delivering on community priorities, 18 creative public space enhancements in Newham were co-produced with residents to enhance key public locations to transform them into community spaces.

Shape Newham is a programme co-produced with local residents to deliver 18 creative public space enhancements across Newham from 2019- 2024. Through deliberative democracy, residents voted on the investment locations and priorities, then oversaw the designs of proposals. The enhancements revitalise public spaces for rest and play and introduce creative wayfinding, environmental improvements and celebrations of local history.

This project is featured alongside our Public London: Activating the City insight study. The publication, exhibition and online project directory explore what constitutes a successful and democratic public realm today, the role of co‑creation and partnerships, and how we can ensure that places are fit‑for‑purpose in the long term.
