Southgate Parklets

Built

Two new parklets in Southgate have mobilised an entire community of young people, residents, business owners to deliver 10 native trees, public seating, artwork and storytelling.

Two new parklets in Southgate have mobilised an entire community of young people, residents and business owners to get involved in bringing 10 native trees, public seating, artwork and story-telling to a high street typically dominated by cars and pollution. Inspired by myths from the ancient woodland Enfield Chase, 20 local young people co-created a modern folklore of Southgate by sharing their own personal memories and cultural connections to trees and nature, now illustrated on the parklets.

This project is featured alongside our Public London: Activating the City insight study. The publication, exhibition and online project directory explore what constitutes a successful and democratic public realm today, the role of co‑creation and partnerships, and how we can ensure that places are fit‑for‑purpose in the long term.
