Shortlisted in the CONSERVING category
St. Marks North Audley Street closed to the general public in 1974 when it was deconsecrated. The recent restoration and repurposing of this Grade I listed 19th Century building has reasserted its extraordinary Regency facade on the street. The meticulous conservation has opened up its colourful Romanesque Victorian interior, for a new purpose as community space and food market. Once a decaying abandoned church, the building is now financially viable and acts as an urban focus, contributing both to the heritage and the socio-economic wellbeing of North Audley Street.
