NEW LONDON AWARDS 2020

Winner in the WELCOMING category
Situated directly opposite St Pancras Station the iconic, brutalist building was designed in the 1970s by Camden’s own architects. The eight storey building has been extended/refurbished throughout by Orms, to now house The Standard London, the brand’s first hotel outside the USA. The existing facade; made of structural precast concrete panels was retained and cleaned. The ground floor accommodates the reception, bar/restaurant with a new facade made up of timber framed windows and brick.  Three new storeys of steel and glass were added to the top, while a new garden re-engages the building with its context.
