Wild Street in Grove Street

Built

A new school street in Edmonton has transformed into a vibrant and dynamic space where students' imaginations and local micro-fauna can flourish together

A new school street in Edmonton is now a place for students’ imaginations and micro-fauna to run wild together. Starting with an all-school ‘Play Street’ event, collaborative build and creative workshops, pupils imagined fantastical hybrid animals to inhabit their street once cars were cleared away. 3 eco-habitats were built to house fantastical creatures: ‘Pymmes Marsh’ recalls a local culverted river; ‘Hollow Tree Meadow’ provides rich bug habitats; ‘Island of the Winds’, home to avian friends

This project is featured alongside our Public London: Activating the City insight study. The publication, exhibition and online project directory explore what constitutes a successful and democratic public realm today, the role of co‑creation and partnerships, and how we can ensure that places are fit‑for‑purpose in the long term.
