New London Architecture

William Street, Knightsbridge

Under Construction

A street dominated by car traffic and parking has transformed to a new public realm shared space with cycle priority to provide a green landmark link, rich in biodiversity and public life.

William Street is strategically important to a series of green spaces and streetscapes linking from Sloane Square to Hyde Park, which allow a network of green infrastructure and accessible walking routes. The street was previously dominated by car traffic and parking, and now has been transformed to a new public realm shared space with cycle priority to provide a green landmark link rich in biodiversity and public life with activated café frontages.

This project is featured alongside our Public London: Activating the City insight study. The publication, exhibition and online project directory explore what constitutes a successful and democratic public realm today, the role of co‑creation and partnerships, and how we can ensure that places are fit‑for‑purpose in the long term.
