Simón is a fire engineer with expertise in developing fire safety strategies for projects across all markets. His experience includes modelling fire dynamics as well as mass timber and material performance under fire. He’s also researched travelling fires and the fire safety of battery energy storage systems.
Part of Simón’s role as a technical development director involves leading our internal and external technical training programmes, which focus on helping fire engineers on the pathway from graduate to chartership. He also serves as the president of the UK's Society of Fire Protection Engineers Chapter, is a visiting lecturer at Birmingham City University, and sits on committees of the British Standards Institution for fire safety engineering (FSH/14 and FSH/24).
Simón delivers a Principal Designer Fire Safety Course that he created for construction professionals who are not fire safety specialists - this helps attendees navigate the Building Safety Act and understand their responsibilities. He is a member of the NLA Expert Panel on Technical Competency, sharing thought-leadership on improving technical competency in the design and delivery of buildings in London. Simon has delivered online courses as a guest lecturer for School of Specification (Architecture Today) and for the Housing Development Academy (Future of London).
Prior to joining Stantec, he was part of the Grenfell Tower Inquiry where he was part of a team that investigated the driving mechanisms of fire growth in façade fires.
