UK Dialogue: How are UK cities adapting their streets for active travel?

Talk

Thursday 16 July 2020
10:00 - 11:30

Experts from Birmingham, Manchester and London will come together to address pressing questions about active travel, sharing examples and discussing current challenges.
Attitudes towards travel are changing at a fast speed, and smarter and cleaner travel options are on the rise. On 11 February 2020, the UK Prime Minister announced £5 billion of funding for investment in local buses and cycling and walking infrastructure.

Once the Coronavirus restrictions ease and people start commuting again, new approaches to transport will arise. The need for physical distancing will bring a shift in commuting preferences, favouring healthier and greener mobility.

Will the post-COVID-19 reality shape a new approach to transport and mobility? How are UK cities working towards decarbonising transport? How will physical distancing affect street infrastructure? How are UK cities reconfiguring roads to make more space for cyclists and pedestrians?

Experts from Birmingham, Manchester and London will come together to address these pressing questions, sharing examples and discussing current challenges.

The live video seminar, taking place simultaneously in several cities, will begin promptly at 10:00. This event forms a key part of the NLA City Dialogues programme, which brings together speakers and audiences to foster cross-city dialogue and learning between cities, both regionally and internationally.
