Housing Summit: delivering homes at pace and price

The 2023 Housing Summit provides a high-level overview on the current state of housing delivery in London, through the lenses of affordability and sustainability.

Leading industry figures provide an update on housing policies, key trends and patterns on what London needs to do to deliver the quality and quantity of both affordable and sustainable housing that Londoners need.

Housing affordability is one of London’s most intractable problems. London’s social housing stock having been depleted by home-ownership policies and low rates of building, now has astronomically long waiting lists. The alternative, the private rented sector (PRS) which constitutes nearly 28 per cent of the stock in London has punishingly high rents compared with average incomes. There are mid-market rent and affordable sale tenures available, but these are rare. What is the outlook for the affordable housing sector and how can work to deliver homes for London’s key workers at pace and price, to ensure that the Capital remains an equitable and diverse city? What are the innovative funding models and partnerships that are emerging from the sector and are they scalable?

The sustainability of London’s housing sector is a key priority with the Mayor of London setting the target of London being zero carbon by 2030, how can the housing sector contribute to this goal of a resilient and future-proof city? How do urban regeneration projects support London’s social and economic sustainability? And how can we unlock the potential of London’s brownfield sites? Which innovative projects are driving forward sustainability in the housing sector and how can these innovations be scaled across the industry to deliver sustainable housing for Londoners?
