City of Westminster

City of Westminster

Westminster City Council is the local authority serving the heart of London. The City of Westminster stretches from Pimlico and Victoria in the south through the West End, Marylebone and Bayswater to Paddington and Queen's Park in the north-west. It includes the capital's principal areas of government, shopping, entertainment and tourism and the headquarters of innumerable commercial and professional organisations together with extensive residential areas of all types.
Westminster attracts a daytime population of over one million workers and visitors, as well as being home to almost 240,000 residents and 47,000 businesses. With less than four years to the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics, the Council is involved in several high profile initiatives including the revival of the West End. This is being guided through a series of action plans for Oxford, Regent and Bond Streets (ORB), Leicester Square, Theatreland, Chinatown, Soho, and Covent Garden. Several exciting projects include major development around Victoria Station, which includes offices, residential and an improved public realm.

In Paddington, one of the largest regeneration areas in London, developments have already led to significant improvements in new jobs, housing and area wide regeneration.
