The scheme encompasses the redevelopment of the buildings and upgrade of the facilities at Hampton Pool to create a fully accessible, highly sustainable and future proof community asset.

Hampton Pool is a much loved community lido open 365 days a year which attracts thousands of people on hot summer days.  It was saved from closure by the community in the early 1980s and has remained financially strong ever since.  The pool itself was upgraded recently but the buildings are no longer fit for purpose and the M&E is highly inefficient.  The planned scheme creates a highly sustainable and accessible facility which exemplifies the key aims of the very best community projects in the capital. The planned scheme will re-use and extend the existing buildings in order to meet the needs of diverse modern society with extended changing and café facilities to cater for families, disabled users and transgender. A lift will allow disabled users access to the café on the 1st floor – formed by the introduction of a CLT canopy that will over sail the existing main building but work independently of it to minimize strengthening costs.  Alongside this, on brownfield land, new gym facilities will help make the whole facility more financially viable. Lastly a complete overhaul of the site’s M&E infrastructure is predicted to achieve a 57% reduction in annual CO2 emissions.

From a social perspective – the project will create a much more accessible facility that will not marginalise any member of the community – as the current buildings do. From an environmental perspective the overhaul of the M&E infrastructure will reduce carbon emissions by 57% and greatly reduce the the site’s energy and water utilization.  However perhaps the key gain is in ensuring the long term economic viability of the site – by introducing facilities like the extended café and new gym that will create consistent revenue all year rather than just a few boom days in the summer.
