Winner in the MASTERPLANS AND AREA STRATEGIES category
Albert Island is an innovative, industrial-led masterplan in the Royal Docks which combines placemaking with industrial intensification to create a new piece of city. Haworth Tompkins are working with London + Regional on a comprehensive redevelopment to create a connected, sustainable employment hub with a mix of uses, cycling and walking links, an enhanced river frontage and improved public realm. As a large brownfield site zoned for industrial use, close to the centre of London and connected to the river, Albert Island is a fantastic opportunity to create an exemplar industrial intensification project. The proposals will provide 70,000sqm of new floorspace including multi-level last-mile logistics warehousing and light industrial buildings, a 6-storey Flatted Factory, a modern shipyard, regenerated leisure marina, and storage warehousing, as well as new housing and a new HQ for the Royal Docks Management Authority. It is currently on site with completion of buildings due from 2023-5
