Richard Best is an Hon. Fellow of the RIBA. He chaired the HAPPI Inquiry and, as Co-Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Housing and Care for Older People, has chaired a series of subsequent inquiries into different aspects of housing for older people. He chaired Hanover Housing Association for eight years, was CEO of the Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust and the Joseph Rowntree Foundation for 18 years. He served on the Board of the Parliament Restoration and Renewal Sponsoring Body throughout its existence.
