Net zero school: Hackbridge Primary School Project in Practice

Talk

Friday 01 April 2022
10:00 - 11:00

Hackbridge Primary is the UK’s first true net zero carbon school, and the first designed to the ‘PassivHaus Plus’ standard. This project in practice will take a deep dive into the rigorous design, engineering and material choices that make this building net zero.
A PassivHaus Plus certificate is awarded to a building that drastically reduced energy use, producing as much energy as its occupants consume. The energy generated must come from renewable sources and provide enough energy to operate the building for a whole year.

Hackbridge Primary School is the UK’s first true net zero carbon school, and the first designed to the ‘PassivHaus Plus’ standard. The architects and engineers took careful consideration when selecting the materials and applying efficient energy and water systems to reduce the overall carbon emissions.

In this project in practice, we invite the team of architects, structural engineers and sustainability engineers behind Hackbridge school to give an in-detail presentation on the processes and methods behind achieving a net zero building, creating a sustainable learning space that enhances health and wellbeing.
