As part of the NLA Lates series, join us for the launch of our latest report, RePower London, exploring a place-based approach to decarbonising infrastructure.
From Victorian era sewers and train lines to mediaeval streets and waterways, London’s infrastructure is ageing and has suffered from a chronic lack of investment over recent decades. Once a source of national pride, it is fast becoming a key limiter of growth, stymying the capital's ability to meet the compounding challenges of the housing crisis, a changing climate, the cost of living and the economic uncertainty.
On this evening, we launch RePower London, our latest research report, which calls for a place-based, people-centric approach to delivering infrastructure, contemplating the modal shift to cleaner energy. The next generation of infrastructure may look very different, with site-specific solutions delivered in local contexts where it can serve multiple functions in a symbiotic way, from performing a placemaking role to connecting people to nature and improving climate resilience.
The election of a new Labour government this year has pushed the issue of Infrastructure to national significance with a key Labour manifesto pledge being to “Make Britain a clean energy superpower”, potentially heralding shifts through national policy and dedicated bodies to oversee power, rail and infrastructure.
As the Labour government gets to work to ‘rebuild Britain’, join us for the launch of RePower London, which sets out key recommendations from the built environment industry to deliver infrastructure that will once again be celebrated as civic amenity.
