As the dust continues to settle in light of the global disruption caused by the coronavirus pandemic, the construction industry is showing strong signs of recovery. With building projects starting back up, this resurgence is a time where it’s important for the industry to understand what the future holds.
With numerous retail closures and new-found emphasis on hygiene as a result of Covid-19, it’s already evident that the face of the built environment is changing. Housing demand and new planning laws have given rise to the transition of these empty shops into flats, contributing to a residential construction boom. Yet, this trend has led to concerns over low-quality homes being developed. Coupled with the after-effects of the pandemic, health and air quality have become major points to consider.
For this reason, occupant wellbeing is being heavily prioritised in the latest government legislation and consultations. However, this isn’t the only building element taking precedence – sustainable development is also firmly on the agenda across the construction industry. As such, wellness and sustainability have become increasingly connected, inciting a ‘healthy by design’ approach to buildings.
Professionals in the building services sector are under mounting pressure to promote both healthy and sustainable design in their projects, while navigating an increasingly regulatory landscape. Moving forward, the construction industry will need to be aware of the challenges that arise and the demands that must be met.
Looking to shed further light on this, REHAU is conducting a survey aimed at London-based architects and specifiers. The study will delve into the most prevalent development projects and emerging trends across the capital’s building sector, in order to gain key industry insights during this transition period.
Upon collating this data, REHAU will look to implement the findings into its latest training programme for 2022, as well as adapting its approach to market to meet the needs of its customers and the industry. Building sector professionals will be offered courses and webinars such as specialised CIBSE-approved CPDs that cover the latest technology and solutions to aid in expanding their skillsets. Each session will be led by a relevant REHAU sector expert and include additional learning materials to ensure construction specialists can remain ahead of the curve.
In the face of a shifting landscape, the importance of valuable insight and relevant training must be underlined. It’s for this reason that gathering the perspectives of professionals across the building sector will be instrumental in enabling these measures and preparing for the future of construction.
