Built Environment Technology

Technology and innovation in the built environment sector

The development of new technologies, better use of data and innovative business models
provide huge opportunities to solve real urban problems. Particularly within the built environment sector, areas of application span from planning and construction to building management, real estate investment and others and address key issues such as clean growth, decarbonisation of the built environment, mobility and community engagement, to name a few.

The current pandemic has accelerated the development and adoption of technology and forced the sector to innovate at a fast pace. Yet, too often innovators are not connected with the traditional built environment sector and the application of new technologies or the smart use of data encounter a series of challenges that could prevent or hold up their adoption on one side, or have unwanted consequences on the quality of places and the people on the other.

The NLA Built Environment Technology programme brings together the tech and built environment sector connecting innovators, tech specialists and urban practitioners to discuss how emerging technologies and practices could solve key urban problems.

As well as examining the impact of technologies on London, this programme champions the role of the capital as an incubator for technological innovation in property and city making.
