The London Festival of Architecture (LFA) is a month long celebration of architecture and city-making, taking place every June across London. The Festival’s mission is to open up discussions around architecture, test new ideas and uncover and promote new talent.
The Festival is for anyone with an interest in London’s architecture and built environment. LFA doesn’t target specific categories of the built environment industry; on the contrary, it brings together the public and the profession. By temporarily reshaping London’s public realm, the Festival acts as a vehicle for change and new ideas to be tested. We build long-lasting relationships with stakeholders across London which in turn help event organisers realise their visions and goals for LFA. Ultimately, our aim is to generate positive long-lasting change for visitors and residents alike.
The Festival returns to London on 1-30 June 2022 with the theme of ‘Act’.
LFA IS CELEBRATORY. Since its origins in 2004, the Festival’s mission has always been to celebrate good design, London as a global hub of architecture, and reveal the underlying potential of emerging designers. Our team works year-round to empower new individuals and organisations to stage their own festival events. June is when everyone comes together to celebrate city-making, places, and people.
LFA IS HUMAN. The Festival doesn’t only celebrate buildings, it celebrates the in-between spaces and the people who use them. Communities are at the core of LFA. LFA provides a fresh look at places, with installations and events that change the way people understand the environment around them. This is relevant to everyone - from architects to families. Our hope is that people will go away with a better understanding of what makes the city thrive and how good design can improve their lives.
LFA IS INCLUSIVE. The Festival reflects London’s ever-changing society and is open to anyone. We break down institutional barriers and welcome everyone into the conversation around our city. The LFA programme is people-led and curated by event organisers; we believe in the power of collaboration with the people who live, shape, and truly know London. Organising an event with the LFA is free and most of LFA’s events are free to attend as well.
LFA IS TIMELY. The Festival evolves every year and keeps up with the times. Since 2004, each theme has always responded to real world issues and challenges that everyone faces. Our annual theme is selected by our growing network of LFA friends and supporters, following a public open call. The Festival’s theme proposes different ways in which Londoners can be active participants in the city. From reinterpreting familiar places through to new installations and animations, redesigning public spaces, to testing interactive forms of consultation and planning for future urban development, festival participants are encouraged to act in and with the city.
