PEARL–the Person Environment Activity Research Laboratory–is University College London’s first net-zero carbon in-use building. It is a unique, purpose-built research facility for the creation of full-size environments, to test how people use infrastructure and cities.
Humans act based on their perception of the world; this was the philosophy that drove the design of UCL’s one-of-a-kind research facility, PEARL. The facility’s objective is to create a world where everyone can experience an improved quality of life through better design of the urban environment, using an evidence-based understanding of how people interact with it, for a more accessible and sustainable future.
“A building to house the world!” - Professor Nick Tyler, Director of UCL Centre for Transport Studies
