Westminster Chapel - New London Awards Winner 2024
Winner in the conservation category
The scheme at Westminster Chapel was both funded by and driven by the needs of the congregation. The ultra-low carbon refurbishment has provided a community space and café for the local community and enabled the flexibility of spaces to cater for parent and toddler groups and community outreach for vulnerable people.
This initial phase of development is the first of four phases across the wider site of Westminster Chapel. This first phase has delivered essential repairs and upgrades of the building systems and fabric whilst also delivering a new accessible entrance that engages with its locale. The next phases are expected to be delivered over the next 10-15 years and will include the development of music rehearsal spaces, community rooms, offices, and kitchens. The scheme has an important public presence on Buckingham Gate. What was once an inward facing building, is now open to the public and provides space for people to sit.
