Caroline Russell, Green Party Member of the London Assembly since May 2016, chairs the Assembly’s Environment Committee and is a member of both the Economy and Transport Committees.
Since becoming the chair of the Environment Committee in 2018, Caroline has lead investigations into the environmental impacts of single use plastic unflushables like wet wipes and period products, the role of ventilation in tackling cold damp mouldy homes, embodied carbon, farming in the green belt, aircraft noise and concentrated flight paths. Current investigations are looking at tube dust and the implications of the proposed third runway at Heathrow which the Committee continues to oppose.
Recently Caroline published a report on the climate change risks for London and was instrumental in getting the Mayor of London to declare a climate emergency.
Caroline came into politics through campaigning for people friendly streets, after a career as an artist, retraining as a civil engineer and a period of parenthood combined with community activism. She is the only opposition councillor in Islington.
