Chris Miele trained as an historian of architecture and urban planning in New York, where he got his doctorate (NYU) and lectured for some time. He moved to the UK and joined English Heritage. He retrained as a town planner and has been in private practice since 1998, first at Alan Baxter & Associates and then RPS. He joined Montagu Evans as a partner in 2007. In private practice he has specialised in projects involving sensitive land, in cities and in the countryside. Instructed by the GLA, he was a principal author of the first London View Management Framework, and has worked on many complex heritage-based projects including the British Museum Extension, the conversion of the Commonwealth Institute into the Design Museum, and the Festival Wing at the South Bank Centre. He has promoted tall building proposals in central London over the years, including Elizabeth House at Waterloo and the pair of towers at One Nine Elms in the Vauxhall Opportunity Area. He continues to work as an independent historian and is currently writing a biography of the Victorian architect Sir George Gilbert Scott.
