In September 2019 he became Director General for Stronger Places at MHCLG. Prior to this he was the interim Director General for Strategy and International at the Department for Education (DfE).

As Director General for Stronger Places Group, he is the department’s lead official for Levelling Up, Devolution and local growth investments such as the Towns Fund, the Future Highstreets Fund and the Housing Investment Fund. As well as leading on Resilience and Emergencies Division (RED).
